Eureka Seven watch order
Fourteen-year-old Renton Thurston, a would-be lifter (sky surfer) stuck in a dull town, joins the rebel crew Gekkostate when the mysterious girl Eureka crashes into his life in her mecha, the Nirvash. Studio Bones' mecha series grew into a sequel, AO, plus an alternate-universe film and the Hi-Evolution film trilogy.
First time? Watch the 50-episode Eureka Seven TV series first; everything else assumes it. Then Eureka Seven AO, the sequel, and the Hi-Evolution trilogy, a separate remix. Pocket Full of Rainbows is an optional alternate take.
First-timer order
The TV series, then the AO sequel line, then the Hi-Evolution trilogy. Pocket Full of Rainbows and New Order are alternate versions that make most sense once you know the original, so they go last.
- Eureka Seven (episodes 1–26)
Renton joins Gekkostate, learns to pilot alongside Eureka and slowly finds out what the Coralians and the military are after. The first half of the original series.
- Eureka Seven (episodes 27–50)
The second half: Renton and Eureka's relationship deepens as the truth about the planet and the Coralians comes out, building to the finale. AO and New Order both branch off from episode 50.
- Eureka Seven AO (episodes 1–8)
The sequel, set on Okinawa: Ao Fukai, a boy whose mother was Eureka, pilots the Nirvash type ZERO for Generation Bleu, a team fighting monster-like Secrets. Follows on from episode 50 of the original.
- Eureka Seven AO: The Flowers of Jungfrau (optional)
An extra side-story episode set between AO episodes 8 and 9. It came on a Blu-ray with the AO PS3 game, so it never aired. Optional.
- Eureka Seven AO (episodes 9–24)
The rest of AO, where the link to the original series becomes clear and Renton and Eureka's story comes back into play. Episodes 23 and 24 aired together as the finale.
- Eureka Seven AO Final Episode: One More Time – Lord Don't Slow Me Down
A five-part web epilogue (about four minutes each) made in 2017 to promote an AO pachislot machine. It's set after AO's finale and shows what happened to Ao. Short, but worth it if you finished AO.
- Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 1
The first film of a remix trilogy. About 25 minutes of new animation show the First Summer of Love, the disaster in the TV series' backstory, then it retells the middle of the TV series out of order, from Renton's side, largely with reused TV footage. Hard to follow without the TV series.
- ANEMONE: Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution
The second film is a mostly new story centred on Anemone, set in a different world from the TV series. Only some battle scenes reuse old footage.
- EUREKA: Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution
The final film, set about ten years after ANEMONE, follows Eureka as she protects a girl named Iris and closes the trilogy. Delayed twice before its 2021 release.
- Eureka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows (optional)
A film retelling of Renton and Eureka's story in an alternate universe, with new backstories and a different setting (also released as Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers). Not a sequel, and confusing without the TV series, so watch it after. Optional.
- Eureka Seven: New Order (optional)
A TV special that aired the week before AO: footage from the final episodes set to a new audio drama the cast performed at a 2006 event, giving an alternate ending the staff had considered. Not canon; AO follows the normal ending. Optional curiosity.
- Eureka Seven: Navigation ray=out (optional)
A TV recap of episodes 1–26 that aired between the two halves. Adds nothing new. Optional.
Story order
The main line runs TV series, AO (with its OVA after episode 8) and AO's web epilogue. New Order is an alternate ending to the TV series. Pocket Full of Rainbows and the Hi-Evolution films are separate continuities, listed after the main line.

Explained
Is AO a sequel, and do I need the original first?
Yes to both. AO follows on from the original's last episode and its second half depends on knowing Renton and Eureka.
How do the Hi-Evolution films fit in?
They're a separate continuity, a remix rather than a sequel. The first film mostly re-edits TV footage around new scenes and changes details, so it only makes sense after the TV series; ANEMONE and EUREKA then tell a new story. AO isn't needed for them, though it came out first.
What is Pocket Full of Rainbows?
A 2009 film that recasts Renton and Eureka in a parallel world with different histories, a new war and new versions of the cast. It isn't connected to the TV series' story and is confusing as a starting point; treat it as an optional alternate take once you've seen the original.
Which parts are skippable?
The Navigation ray=out recap, the New Order alternate ending and The Flowers of Jungfrau OVA can all be skipped. The AO web epilogue is only about 20 minutes in total and answers what happened to Ao, so it's worth watching after AO.
Is there an English dub, and is more coming?
The TV series, Pocket Full of Rainbows, AO and all three Hi-Evolution films were dubbed in English. The 2025–26 20th-anniversary project brought events, new visuals and music, but no new anime had been announced as of October 2026.
