K-On! watch order
Yui joins her school's light music club thinking 'light music' means something easy, and ends up as the guitarist of Ho-kago Tea Time with Mio, Ritsu, Mugi and, later, Azusa. Kyoto Animation's adaptation of kakifly's four-panel manga: two TV seasons, a few bonus episodes, chibi shorts and a film.
First time? Watch K-On! (including the two bonus episodes), then K-On!! (likewise), then K-On! The Movie. The Ura-On! shorts are optional extras.
Story order
When each episode is set. Plan! sits in the middle of the second season (between episodes 13 and 14), and the two extras belong between 21 and 22 and between 22 and 23; the film runs alongside the last episodes. The chibi shorts are left out.
- K-On! (episodes 1–12)
Yui, Mio, Ritsu and Mugi form the light music club, first-year Azusa joins in episode 8, and the season ends with the school festival performance.
- K-On! episode 13: Winter Days!
An extra episode broadcast a week after the finale: a quiet winter episode set after the festival. Usually counted as part of the season.
- K-On!: Live House!
A full episode from the last first-season disc, often counted as episode 14: the band plays a live house on New Year's Eve alongside other bands. Set between the two seasons, and it's a normal episode rather than an extra.
- K-On!!: Plan!
A disc-only episode, often counted as episode 27: as summer break ends, the girls argue about where to go on a graduation trip and get their passports. It sets up the film, though it's set earlier, between episodes 13 and 14.
- K-On!! (episodes 1–24)
The four seniors' last year of school with Azusa as the only junior, through a final school festival, entrance exams and graduation. Episode 24 is the graduation ceremony.
- K-On!! episode 25: Planning Discussion!
The first of two extra episodes aired after the finale: the club tries to make a new recruitment video. Set after episode 21, before the entrance exams.
- K-On!! episode 26: Visit!
The second extra: the seniors check the yearbook and visit a sick Sawako at home. Set after the entrance exams and before graduation.
- K-On! The Movie
A 110-minute original story: the five go to London on their graduation trip and, back home, secretly write a farewell song for Azusa. It's set around episodes 22–24 of the second season and ends by overlapping the graduation finale, so watch it after the series.
Release order
Everything in the order it came out. This is the order to watch first time: the film retells the ending of the second season from another angle, so it works best once you've seen episode 24.

Explained
What are the extra episodes, and do I need them?
Both seasons had one or two 'extra' episodes broadcast after the finale (season one's 13, season two's 25 and 26), plus one more episode on the last disc of each season (Live House! and Plan!). They're all ordinary episodes, just set slightly out of order, so watch them. Only the Ura-On! chibi shorts are throwaway.
When should I watch the movie?
After the second season. The film is set in the last weeks before graduation and ends with the same farewell song as episode 24, told from a different angle. Some fans slot it between episodes 23 and 24 on a rewatch; first time, finish the series and then watch the film.
Is there an English dub?
Yes, by Bang Zoom!, with Stephanie Sheh as Yui and Cristina Vee as Mio, covering both seasons, the extras and the film. The film's London scenes lean on the girls' broken English meeting real English speakers, which lands better subtitled.
Is there anything new?
No new K-On! anime has been announced as of October 2026. kakifly's spin-off manga K-On! Shuffle has been running since 2018 without an adaptation.
