Log Horizon watch order

Thirty thousand Japanese players are trapped inside the online game Elder Tales, and nobody dies for good. Instead of fighting their way out, the strategist Shiroe sets out to build a working society with the players and the game's own people. Adapted from Mamare Touno's light novels.

First time? Watch Season 1, Season 2 and Destruction of the Round Table (Season 3) in that order. Skip the hour-long recap special that aired in the middle of Season 1.

Story order

One straight line: Season 1, Season 2, then Destruction of the Round Table. The recap special is left out because it adds nothing.

  1. Log Horizon (Season 1), episodes 1–6 TV, 2013, 6 episodes

The Catastrophe traps players in Elder Tales. Shiroe, Naotsugu and Akatsuki rescue Serara from the lawless city of Susukino, then Shiroe founds his own guild, Log Horizon.

  2. Log Horizon (Season 1), episodes 7–25 TV, 2013–14, 19 episodes

Shiroe's plan to bring order to Akihabara and the founding of the Round Table, the beginners' summer training camp, the Goblin King's invasion of the Eastal region, and the Libra Festival, which ends with a rival power rising in western Japan.

  3. Log Horizon 2 TV, 2014–15, 25 episodes

Episodes 26–50, now made by Studio Deen. Shiroe's raid on the Abyssal Shaft in Susukino, the hunt for a murderer in Akihabara (Akatsuki's arc), the younger players' journey with the Odyssey Knights, and the first Genius monsters.

  4. Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table TV, 2021, 12 episodes

Episodes 51–62, the third season, after a six-year gap. With Krusty suddenly gone, political rifts and Genius monsters threaten to break up the Round Table. It's based on story the author published online (web-novel volume 12), not a printed light novel.

Explained

Do I need to watch the recap special?

No. "Imanara Maniau! Log Horizon" (roughly "You can still catch up!") is a 58-minute catch-up special that NHK aired after episode 6. It only retells episodes 1–6, so skip it unless you want a refresher.

Why does Season 2 look different?

Season 1 was made by Satelight and Seasons 2 and 3 by Studio Deen. The cast and story continue directly, but the art and animation changed, which some fans disliked. It's still the same story; don't skip it.

Is Destruction of the Round Table Season 3?

Yes. It's the third season under a different title, numbered episodes 51–62. It was planned for October 2020 but was pushed to January 2021 because of COVID-19.

Why did it take six years to get Season 3?

Author Mamare Touno was convicted of tax evasion in 2016, and the light novels slowed to a crawl afterwards. Only 11 print volumes exist (the last in 2018); Destruction of the Round Table is based on story the author published online after that.

Is there a Season 4?

No fourth season has been announced as of October 2026. Season 3 ends with several threads open, so expect an unfinished story.
