Major watch order

Goro, the son of a pro baseball player, grows up chasing his father's dream all the way from Little League to the American major leagues. Takuya Mitsuda's manga follows one pitcher's whole life across six TV seasons, a movie and two OVAs, and the sequel MAJOR 2nd follows his son Daigo.

First time? Start with Major season 1 and watch the six seasons in order, adding the movie after season 1. Finish with the World Series OVA, then Major: Message, before moving on to MAJOR 2nd.

Story order

Goro's life in order: the movie slots between seasons 1 and 2, and the World Series OVA comes before the Message epilogue. This is the usual recommended order.

  1. Major season 1 TV, 2004–05, 26 episodes

Episodes 1–26: Goro's childhood and Little League years, from watching his father play to forming his own team, the Mifune Dolphins. Melodramatic in places, but it sets up everything that follows.

  2. Major: Yuujou no Ikkyuu (Winning Shot) Movie, 2008, 1 episode

A feature film set between seasons 1 and 2, when Goro is about ten and playing Little League in Fukuoka. It shows how he hurts his right shoulder, which is why he pitches left-handed from season 2 on. Released after season 4, but it fits best here.

  3. Major season 2 TV, 2005–06, 26 episodes

Episodes 27–52: Goro, now a left-handed pitcher, plays for his middle school team, then gets into Kaido, the elite baseball high school.

  4. Major season 3 TV, 2007, 26 episodes

Episodes 53–78: Goro leaves Kaido for Seishu High, a school with no baseball club, and builds a team from nothing to take on Kaido in the prefecture tournament.

  5. Major season 4 TV, 2008, 26 episodes

Episodes 79–104: Goro goes to the United States, gets through tryouts and climbs the minor leagues, including his rivalry with Joe Gibson Jr. A new studio takes over from here.

  6. Major season 5 TV, 2009, 25 episodes

Episodes 105–129: the Baseball World Cup, an international tournament where Goro pitches for the Japan national team.

  7. Major season 6 TV, 2010, 25 episodes

Episodes 130–154: Goro in the major leagues, through injury and comeback. The TV run skips the World Series itself, which was animated later as an OVA.

  8. Major: World Series OVA, 2011–12, 2 episodes

Two OVA episodes that animate the World Series the TV series skipped. It's canon and widely seen as the proper ending, so watch it right after season 6, even though it came out after Message.

  9. Major: Message OVA, 2010, 1 episode

A one-episode epilogue set many years later, when Goro's pitching career is ending and his children are growing up. It was bundled with the last manga volume and leads into MAJOR 2nd. Not a recap.

  10. MAJOR 2nd TV, 2018, 25 episodes

The sequel series about Goro's son Daigo, who struggles to live up to his father's name. He joins the Mifune Dolphins with Hikaru, the son of Goro's old friend Toshiya Sato.

  11. MAJOR 2nd season 2 TV, 2020, 25 episodes

Daigo becomes captain of his middle school team, mostly girls and beginners. The broadcast paused for a month in spring 2020 because of COVID but finished all 25 episodes.

The order it came out in Japan. The movie came out between seasons 4 and 5, and Message (2010) came out a year before the World Series OVA (2011–12), even though it's set later.

Explained

Where does the movie go?

Between seasons 1 and 2. It came out in 2008, after season 4, but its story is set in Goro's Little League days in Fukuoka and explains how he injured his right shoulder before switching to his left arm in season 2. You can skip it, but it fills a gap the series only mentions.

World Series or Message first?

World Series first. Season 6 jumps past the World Series, and the 2011–12 OVA goes back and animates it. Message is an epilogue set years later, so it works best as the very last piece of Goro's story, even though it was released earlier.

Do I need the original before MAJOR 2nd?

It helps a lot. MAJOR 2nd is about Goro's son, and it leans on the original's characters, teams and history: the Mifune Dolphins, Toshiya Sato and Goro's own legend. Watching all of Major first is a big commitment (154 episodes), but that's the order the story is meant to be seen in.

Is there an English dub or a legal stream?

No English dub of Major or MAJOR 2nd has been released. MAJOR 2nd season 1 streamed subtitled on Crunchyroll, but the original 2004–10 series has been hard to find legally in English.

Is there a MAJOR 2nd season 3?

Not yet. As of 2026, no third season or other new Major anime has been announced.
