Nisekoi watch order
Raku Ichijo, heir to a yakuza family, has to fake a romance with Chitoge Kirisaki, daughter of a rival gang's boss, to keep the peace, while he's secretly in love with a classmate and holding onto a locked pendant from a childhood promise. Naoshi Komi's manga became two TV seasons by Shaft and four OVAs.
First time? Watch Nisekoi (2014), then Nisekoi: (2015). The OVAs are optional comedy extras; then pick up the manga to see how it ends.
Release order
Release order is the usual way to watch. The first three OVAs came out between the seasons, but they adapt chapters from Season 2's stretch of the manga, so they also work after Season 2. The last OVA needs Season 2 episode 8.
- Nisekoi
Raku and Chitoge start their fake relationship, while Raku keeps pining for his classmate Kosaki and more girls tied to his childhood promise turn up, such as Marika. Adapts manga chapters 1–50.
- Nisekoi OVA (optional)
Optional. Three bonus episodes sold with manga volumes 14, 16 and 17, released between the two seasons. Standalone comedy chapters (a shrine, a New Year's visit, Marika's part-time job, a bath house) from the part of the manga Season 2 covers.
- Nisekoi:
Season 2 (note the colon in the title). Covers roughly chapters 51–106 but skips many of them, ending on Marika's big declaration. The first half of episode 8 is the Magical Patissiere Kosaki-chan parody.
- Nisekoi: OVA (optional)
Optional and non-canon. One release in two short parts: "what if Raku married each girl" scenes from bonus manga, and more Magical Patissiere Kosaki-chan, following on from Season 2 episode 8. Watch after Season 2.
Explained
Does the anime finish the story?
No. The manga ran to 229 chapters (25 volumes) and ended in 2016, but the anime stops around chapter 106, so it never reaches who Raku ends up with or the truth about the promise. No third season has been announced.
Where do I start the manga after the anime?
Chapter 107 (volume 12) picks up where Season 2 ends. Season 2 skips a lot of chapters along the way, though, so some fans suggest starting from chapter 51 instead to get everything. Viz Media publishes the manga in English.
Where do the OVAs fit, and are they canon?
The first three OVAs (grouped as one three-episode entry on AniList) adapt real manga chapters from Season 2's part of the story, so they're canon but self-contained comedy, and the exact spot doesn't matter. The 2016 OVA is a non-canon "married life" fantasy plus the Magical Patissiere Kosaki-chan spin-off, a parody that casts Kosaki as a magical girl.
Is there an English dub?
Aniplex of America's releases of both seasons are Japanese audio with English subtitles. In the US the OVAs were first released on the 2020 complete Blu-ray box. There's also a 2018 live-action film, separate from the anime.
