One Piece watch order
Monkey D. Luffy sets out to find the legendary treasure One Piece and become King of the Pirates. It's one long TV series, plus more than a dozen movies and specials.
First time? Just watch the TV series from episode 1. Slot in the five movies Oda was involved with where the story order puts them. Everything else is optional.
Story order
The TV series with the five modern films slotted in where their tie-in episodes air. None of the films are canon, but they're written to fit at these points.
- One Piece, episodes 1–429
East Blue through the start of Impel Down. Episodes 426–429 are the lead-in to Strong World.
- One Piece Film: Strong World
The first film with a story by Oda himself. The 2010 short Strong World: Episode 0 is an optional prequel.
- One Piece, episodes 430–578
Impel Down, Marineford, the timeskip and Fish-Man Island. Episodes 575–578 lead into Film Z.
- One Piece Fan Letter
A short, much-loved special about ordinary people who admire the Straw Hats, set right after the timeskip. Fine anywhere after episode 516.
- One Piece Film: Z
Oda was executive producer. The short Glorious Island special is an optional prequel.
- One Piece, episodes 579–750
Punk Hazard and Dressrosa. Episodes 747–750 and the Heart of Gold TV special lead into Film Gold.
- One Piece Film: Gold
A heist in a floating casino city. Oda was executive producer.
- One Piece, episodes 751–896
Zou and Whole Cake Island. Episodes 895–896 lead into Stampede.
- One Piece: Stampede
The 20th-anniversary film: a huge crossover of almost every major character.
- One Piece, episodes 897–1030
Most of Wano. Episodes 1029–1030 are the prologue to Film Red.
- One Piece Film: Red
Shanks's daughter Uta and her concert. Oda was general producer.
- One Piece, episodes 1031 onward
The end of Wano, Egghead, and Elbaph, which began in April 2026.
Release order
Everything in the order it came out. The TV series started first and is still going, so it sits at the top.
- One Piece (TV series)
Over 1,100 episodes and still running. Since April 2026 it airs in seasonal blocks of up to 26 episodes a year.
- Movies 1–7 (optional)
Standalone adventures, from One Piece: The Movie to Mega Mecha Soldier of Karakuri Castle. They don't connect to the story, so watch them whenever you like.
- Episode of Alabasta and Episode of Chopper Plus (optional)
Movies 8 and 9 retell the Alabasta and Drum Island arcs with changes. Skip them if you've watched the TV series.
- One Piece Film: Strong World
The first film with a story by Oda himself. The 2010 short Strong World: Episode 0 is an optional prequel.
- One Piece Film: Z
Oda was executive producer. The short Glorious Island special is an optional prequel.
- One Piece Film: Gold
A heist in a floating casino city. Oda was executive producer.
- One Piece: Stampede
The 20th-anniversary film: a huge crossover of almost every major character.
- One Piece Film: Red
Shanks's daughter Uta and her concert. Oda was general producer.
- One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga (optional)
A tighter, remastered cut of the Fish-Man Island arc (episodes 517–574). Watch it instead of those episodes if you want a faster pace.
- One Piece Fan Letter
A short, much-loved special about ordinary people who admire the Straw Hats, set right after the timeskip. Fine anywhere after episode 516.
Explained
Are the movies canon?
No One Piece movie is part of the manga's story. The five modern films (Strong World, Z, Gold, Stampede and Red) were made with Oda's involvement and fit cleanly between arcs, which is why the story order places them. The earlier films are self-contained side adventures.
What about the "Episode of" specials?
Episode of Nami, Merry, Luffy, Sabo, East Blue, Skypiea and the rest are TV specials that recap arcs, sometimes with a little new material. If you're watching the series, you can skip all of them.
How much filler is there?
Very little compared to other long shonen, but there are anime-only arcs and episodes along the way, like the G-8 arc (196–206) and the Spa Island arc (382–384). They're fine to skip; many viewers use a filler list to stay on the main story.
