The Quintessential Quintuplets watch order

Broke top student Futaro Uesugi takes a tutoring job for the Nakano quintuplets, five identical sisters who all hate studying and, at first, him. The story opens with his wedding to one of them years later, and the mystery is which. Based on Negi Haruba's manga.

First time? Watch Season 1, Season 2, the 2023 special ∽ (No Coincidences in This Summer Break), then The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie, which ends the story, and finally the honeymoon special *.

Story order

∽ adapts summer-break chapters that the film skipped, so it slots in before the film. Watch-order lists on MyAnimeList and Anime-Planet both put it here. The honeymoon special comes after the wedding, so it's last either way.

  1. The Quintessential Quintuplets (Season 1) TV, 2019, 12 episodes

Futaro starts tutoring the Nakano sisters and slowly wins each of them over. Made by Tezuka Productions; adapts roughly chapters 1–32 of the manga.

  2. The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬ (Season 2) TV, 2021, 12 episodes

A new studio (Bibury) and director, same cast. Picks up from Season 1 and covers about chapters 33–86, ending with the Sisters' War arc. A few chapters are skipped or cut down along the way.

  3. The Quintessential Quintuplets ∽ (No Coincidences in This Summer Break) Special, 2023, 2 episodes

Two episodes made by Shaft, shown in Japanese cinemas and then on TV in September 2023. They adapt manga chapters the earlier anime skipped, mostly from the summer of the third year, so in story order they fit between Season 2 and the film. Crunchyroll added them in 2026.

  4. The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie Movie, 2022, 1 episode

A 136-minute film that picks up right after Season 2 and adapts the last four volumes (about chapters 87–122), centred on the final school festival. It answers which sister Futaro marries and ends the manga's story.

  5. The Quintessential Quintuplets * (Operation Quintuplets) Special, 2024, 2 episodes

A two-episode special by Bibury, shown in Japanese cinemas in September 2024 and on TV that December: the honeymoon in Hawaii, with everyone as adults. An original story from Negi Haruba's idea, set after the film, so watch it last.

Release order

Everything in the order it came out. Watching ∽ after the film works too: it's side material, and the film doesn't depend on it.

Explained

Is the movie season 3?

In effect, yes. The film continues straight from Season 2 and covers the rest of the manga, wedding included, in one 136-minute go. There's no TV season 3 of the original story.

Should I watch ∽ before or after the movie?

Either works. ∽ adapts chapters from the third-year summer that the film skipped, so story order puts it before the film. Watched afterwards, in release order, it plays as a look back at the sisters before the ending. Both are reasonable.

Why does the art keep changing?

The studio changed between entries: Tezuka Productions made Season 1, Bibury made Season 2, the film and the honeymoon special, and Shaft made ∽. The voice cast stayed the same throughout.

Where do I read the manga after the anime?

The film reaches the final chapter (122), so there's no story left to read. If you want the chapters the anime skipped or cut down, start the manga from chapter 33 after Season 1 or chapter 87 after Season 2. It's 14 volumes in English from Kodansha.

What's coming next?

In May 2026 two new projects were announced: Shunkashuutou ('Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter'), a TV anime of the sequel novel series supervised by Negi Haruba, and a new OVA adapting manga chapters the anime hasn't covered. Neither has a studio or release date as of October 2026.
