Explained

Is the movie canon, and do I need it?

Yes, watch it. It's set after Season 3 and works as the finale of the anime. The director said its main story isn't from the manga but was written with creator Soichiro Yamamoto's involvement. Its post-credits scene jumps ahead to an adult Takagi and Nishikata with their daughter, Chi.

Is there a sequel about grown-up Takagi?

In manga form. Karakai Jouzu no (Moto) Takagi-san, by Mifumi Inaba, follows the married couple and their daughter. It has no anime; the movie's post-credits scene is the only time that future appears in animation. The original manga ended in October 2023 after 20 volumes.

Why do the English dubs change cast?

Each part was licensed separately. Season 1 was dubbed by Funimation (Sarah Wiedenheft as Takagi, Aaron Dismuke as Nishikata). Season 2 was a Netflix release with a different dub cast. Season 3 and the movie were dubbed by Sentai Filmworks, with Wiedenheft back as Takagi. The Water Slide OVA has no dub. Because Season 2 was a Netflix exclusive, where you can stream it depends on your region.

What about the live-action versions?

Teasing Master Takagi-san became a live-action drama on Netflix and TBS in 2024, set in junior high, and a live-action film the same year set ten years later. They're separate from the anime and not part of this order.
